The Kristu Jyoti Group constitutes a cluster of educational institutions owned by the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) congregation of the St. Joseph’s province, Thiruvananthapuram. The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, as the pioneering indigenous religious congregation, have been at the forefront of educational initiatives since their establishment in 1831, championing inclusivity without regard to caste or creed. Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the congregation's founder, laid the foundation for this commitment by establishing Kerala's first Sanskrit Catholic college in 1846 and the inaugural primary college in 1864. Today, this endeavor has flourished into a network of 300 schools, including vocational institutions, and 20 first-grade colleges equipped with research centers offering postgraduate courses.
